Members and customers help UFA Co-operative Limited reach another record year

Calgary, March 20—A strong connection to rural communities and the loyalty of members and customers has made 2007 another record year for UFA Co-operative Limited.

UFA’s sales in 2007 reached $1.8 billion, a 12 per cent increase over 2006. As a member-owned co-operative, UFA will distribute a record $35.2 million patronage allocation to its members.

”UFA’s record financial results mean that we’re able to invest in growth opportunities that will enable us to continue serving our members and customers for another hundred years,” says Dallas Thorsteinson, president and CEO. “By expanding our business we can remain committed to enriching life in our rural communities.”

There were a number of highlights in 2007. UFA broadened its services by launching a new construction division that integrates its building experience. It opened a petroleum location in Redcliff and relocated and upgraded agencies in Camrose, Athabasca and Lethbridge. This year, UFA achieved our Certificate of Recognition, ensuring that UFA’s health and safety management system meets provincial standards. The co-operative also made changes to improve its governance structure by expanding its board of directors to 12 from nine directors.

UFA’s success has come from staying in touch with our owners, customers and the rural communities we serve,” says Clarence Olthuis, chairman of UFA’s board of directors. “While owner satisfaction has increased this past year, we will continue to explore new ways to provide value for our owners.”
